This Is How To Reupholster Your Worn Out Office Chair

One of the things that many people complain about, especially when they buy a cheap office chair, is that it simply wears out easily. However, in case the office chair is still comfortable and provides the support you need, you don’t need to buy a new one. All you need to do is to reupholster office chair.

In other cases, you may simply want to change the look and feel of your office. And one of the things that you can do is to reupholster office chairs to make them match the new decoration.

The truth is that no matter which situation is your, it’s not complicated to reupholster office chair. Here are the materials that you need to reupholster office chair:

  • Upholstering Fabric (1 yard)
  • Flat-head Screwdriver
  • Electric Knife
  • Staple Gun and Staples
  • Scissors
  • Marker and/or pins
  • Foam

 

 

 

Now that you already know the material that you need, you just need to follow the simple instructions to reupholster your office chair:

Step #1: Choose The Fabric:

When you are looking at the fabric that you will use to reupholster office chair, make sure that besides choosing one that matches your office decoration, it is also durable and has a good quality. After all, you want it to last for many years. Please notice that there are some fabrics that are specific for reupholstering. So, maybe you want to check these ones out first.

Step #2: Disassemble The Office Chair:

The next step to reupholster an office chair is to disassemble it. So, just separate the seat from the back of the chair and then get rid of the old foam and fabric using the flat-head screwdriver.

Step #3: Cutting The New Fabric:

Grab the old fabric that you just removed and use it to measure and cut the new one. Just pin them together to not mess up with the measurements and then use the scissors.

Step #4: Taking Care Of The Foam:

Get the foam that you bought and place it on your work area. Then grab the seat and put it on top of it. Now, you’ll need to cut the foam using the electric knife. Do the same for the back of the office chair. When you’re done, make sure that you use the scissors to smooth the rough edges.

Make sure that your office chair wheels are clean.

Step #5: Upholstering The Office Chair:

Finally, it’s time to add the new fabric to both the seat and the back of your office chair. So, all you need to do is to place the new fabric that you already cut facing down and smooth it. Make sure to center the foam and then put the back of the chair on top of it. Pull one side of the fabric in one corner of the back and use the stapler to secure it. Then, do the same on the opposite side. Repeat the same operation for the other two corners missing on the back of the chair. After these are done, just go around the entire back of the chair to secure the foam and the fabric in place.

Once you’re done with the back of the chair, do the same for the seat.

Step#6: Reassembling The Office Chair:

Now that you already have your new reupholstered office chair, it’s time to reassemble it.
